Floods render Magadi-Kiserian road impassible

Residents of Magadi in Kajiado County are crying foul over the bad state of a key road that connects them to other regions.

For almost a week, the Magadi-Kiserian road has remained impassable due to floods.

Movement has been hampered after a section of the tarmac road was washed away at Kamukuru, near the General Service Unit training college.

Government services have been disrupted since officers unable to navigate through the road have opted to stay away from duty.

The standard crew yesterday found Tata Chemical engineers trying to clear the road in a bid to restore transport services.

Some residents claimed the road had turned into a death trap for motorists.

"We have suffered a lot on this road, recently a saloon car was swept away by the floods. It's by God's mercy that the two occupants were rescued by Good Samaritans," said Moses ole Saparan.

The road serves residents of the semi-arid Nkuruman highlands known for multi-million-shilling livestock trade and agri-business.

"Our crops continue to decay in the farms since we cannot access the market due to the damaged road. We are demanding a permanent solution, said Naomi Muikali, a farmer.
