Covid-19: 505 recover as Kenya records 69 new infections

Kenya has so far administered 3,613,357 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, the total first doses were 2,724,722 while the second doses were 888,615.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 32.6 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.3 per cent.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Others 290,064, aged 58 years and above 254,010, Health Workers 141,163, Teachers 128,704 while Security Officers are at 74,674.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 69 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 1,414 raising the country's caseload to 248,461.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 4.9 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,534,881.

Out of the new patients, 34 are male, whereas 35 are female, with the youngest carrier being a 14-year-old youth, and the oldest aged 89.

All the new cases are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 24 cases, Meru 12, Nakuru 4, Murang’a, Makueni and Taita Taveta 3 cases each, Kakamega, Mombasa, Kiambu, Nyeri, Isiolo and Uasin Gishu 2 cases each, West Pokot, Baringo, Embu, Turkana, Kajiado, Garissa, Homa Bay and Machakos 1 case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 5,102 after six patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 240,235 after 505 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 466 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 39 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 194,278 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 45,957 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,209 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,633 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Eighty-seven (87) patients are in the ICU, 49 of whom are on ventilatory support and 38 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 387 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 368 of them in general wards and 19 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
