Covid-19: 448 new infections, 16 deaths

Some 488 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, from a 5,831 sample size conducted in the last 24 hours.

Four hundred and eighty-one of those are Kenyans and seven foreigners.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, in a statement, said Kenya’s positivity rate is now 8.4 per cent.

The country’s total confirmed cases are now 174,773, while 1,858,443 have been conducted so far since the onset of the disease.

Three hundred and forty-three patients have also recovered from Covid-19.

“274 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care Program, while 69 are from various health facilities countrywide,” Kagwe said.

This now pushes recoveries to 119,589.

Another sixteen patients have succumbed to the disease, all being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of April, May and June.

Kenya’s Covid-19 death toll has now risen to 3,378.

A total of 969 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,827 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care Program. One hundred and sixty-two patients are in the ICU, thirty of whom are on ventilator support and 113 on supplementary oxygen. Nineteen patients are under observation.

The country has administered 1,095,122 Covid jab so far.  

The Health Ministry says it has administered 985,070 first doses of Covid-19 vaccine and 110,052 second doses.

“The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 11.17 per cent with the majority being males at 56.4 per cent while females are at 43.6 per cent,” the CS added.
