1,184 people test positive for Covid-19 today

Kenya has today recorded 1,184 positive Covid-19 cases from a sample size of 7,139 pushing the national caseload to 138,077. The positivity rate is at 16.5 per cent.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Health said from the new cases, 1,146 are Kenyans while 38 are foreigners; of which 601 are males and 583 females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is aged 98.

Nairobi still leads with the highest number of infections (613) followed by Kiambu (92), Nyeri (59) and Kericho (47).

According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, 1,582 patients are currently admitted to various healthcare facilities across the country, while 5,376 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Regarding recoveries, the country's total is now at 93,650 after 220 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. 177 are from Home Based and Isolation Care and 43 from various health facilities.

Kagwe adds that 187 patients are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 43 of whom are on ventilator support and 111 on supplemental oxygen. 33 patients are on observation.

247 more patients are separately on supplementary oxygen, with 234 in general wards and 13 in the High Dependency Units.

However, the country's fatality tally now stands at 2,206 after 20 patients succumbed to Covid-19; two of them in the last 24 hours, 14 in the last month and four are late death reports from facility record audits that occurred on diverse dates.
