A field of 180 golfers have confirmed their participation in Friday’s Alpha Mulembe Tournament at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The mixed field will see the first flight hit the fairways at 6.39am in a continuous draw to be played under the stableford scoring format.

The premier par-72 course tilting 7169 yards is playing short at the moment due to the wet conditions occasioned by heavy rains being experienced across the country.

This will be the seventh edition of the tournament by the golfing society with a 250-membership drawn from the 23 Luhya sub tribes led by Chairman Eric Nyongesa and George Eshuchi as its Captain.

"As a society, we have our mission statement vision and values that we espouse and seek to be governed by and which if practiced by all of us, shall see us succeed in our said mission,” said Eshuchi.

Proceeds from joining and subscription fees are used to run the tournament, especially if there are any shortfalls in the budgets and for administrative work as well as supporting the Mulembe Junior golf initiative.

The Mulembe junior golf initiative was birthed this year and aims to fully support 20 of the very promising but less fortunate Mulembe Golfing Society junior players.

Hosting three tournaments annually at one of the Nairobi County courses before heading down to the Mombasa Front Course, followed by a penultimate one at either Kakamega Sports Club or Kitale Golf Club course is part of their plans.

Alpha Mulembe Tournament will be the 2024 season-opener followed by Mashemeji Derby pitting Mulembe Golfing Society against Sunset Golfing Society made up of Nyanza region golfers at Royal Nairobi Golf Club on June 14. Thereafter, the MGS shall sponsor a Junior Tournament for bidding golfers at the RNGC on August 11, 2024.

The Karen outing will then be staged at the exclusive Karen Country Club on September 20.

After pitching their tent in Nairobi, they will head out to Mombasa for a two-day Mulembe Coast Golf Festival at Mombasa Golf Club on November 1-2.

Kakamega Sports Club will then host the Homecoming Golf Festival on December 21-22, where Mulembe professionals will play on the first day before MGS membership takes to the fairways on the second day.
