Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has been overwhelmed by the love and generosity shown by Kenyans on his birthday.
Owino, who is celebrating his special day on the same date as Mazingira Day, took to social media to express his gratitude.
The outspoken lawmaker revealed that Kenyans had sent him Sh370,000 in birthday gifts via Mpesa.
However, he urged them to stop sending more, acknowledging the tough financial times many are facing.
“A big thank you to all Kenyans who are sending me Mpesa for my Birthday today. We are at 370K so far. I suggest you stop please, hiyo pesa wacha ikushikilie mahali for I really feel what you are going through as a Kenyan. God bless you all," Owino posted.
Kenyans flooded his comments with messages of support. One user, Rumina Saison, wrote, "You deserve it Mhesh ❤️ and Happy Birthday. Let people show you some love."
Another, Cynthia Zion, added, "You deserve it. You're one of the people that matter. Happy Birthday to you."
Babu Owino also shared a Bible verse from Psalms 16:5-6: "Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance."

Owino is well-known for his vocal opinions on national matters. Recently, however, he did not participate in the debate on the impeachment motion of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Explaining his absence, Owino said he was focused on more pressing issues affecting his constituents.
He stated, “How can I waste my whole day discussing Rigathi yet we have serious issues like Adani, the new university funding model, SHIF, the high cost of living, high taxation, and unemployment? You’ll see me in Parliament when these issues are presented, but they won’t bring them. I was highly engaged with urgent matters affecting my people.”
He further emphasised that the speed at which the impeachment was handled should also be applied to solving Kenya’s challenges.
