EACC probing three Makueni county workers for working two jobs

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into three members of the Makueni County Public Service Board for allegedly holding two jobs in government.

The three officials namely Bernard Kivunge, Jacinta Kinyili, and Margaret Musyoka, are accused of illegally receiving salaries, allowances, and benefits from both their roles as board members and in their positions at public universities.

According to the EACC, when these individuals were appointed to the Makueni County Public Service Board (PSB), they were already employed full-time at the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, and Machakos University, making them ineligible for the county positions.

The investigation was initiated following a report received by the integrity agency on May 15.

The commission has stated that the outcome of the probe will determine the appropriate action, which may include recommending prosecution for any individuals found guilty and the recovery of public funds obtained illegally.

The constitution prohibits full-time government employees from holding multiple jobs, as this constitutes the fraudulent acquisition of public property.

If found guilty, EACC is mandated to recover all public funds paid to these officials while they were engaged in dual employment.
