Those fully vaccinated in Kenya can travel to UK without having to quarantine

Health & Science

Starting Monday, those fully vaccinated in Kenya can travel to the UK without having to quarantine, or take a Covid-19 test before departure.

UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott said the move was motivated by the strong partnership with the Health ministry to complete the process to recognise vaccine certificates.

Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu said the announcement is "great news for the Kenya-UK trade, citizens and tourism as we move closer to getting back to normal".

Marriott said the order is great news for the people, business, and tourism after "tough 18 months".

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said from 4am, Monday October 11, some 47 destinations will be removed from the red list for international travel with only seven remaining.

The UK's inbound vaccinated arrivals policy has also been extended to a further 30+ destinations.

The United Kingdom and Kenya governments on September 21 said they recognise Covid-19 vaccines administered in either of the countries.

In a joint statement, the two countries said they are in the process of formulating ways to validate Covid-19 certificates issued in either of the nations.

The vaccines recognised by the UK and Kenya are Oxford/AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson.

“It is false to state that vaccines administered in either country are unapproved,” said Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe and Marriott in their joint statement.

Sinopharm, manufactured in China, was not on the list.

On September 17 Kenya was scrapped off Britain’s Covid-19 red-list after six months.

The UK government announced that Kenya, Egypt, Bangladesh, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Turkey were moved from the red list to amber.

“From 4am September 22 the eight countries will move from red to amber,” UK Foreign Travel Advice (FTA) said.

According to the FTA website, travel rules for countries not on the red list will depend on an individual’s vaccination status.

The UK issued a travel advisory for visitors originating from Kenya in April.

London added Kenya, the Philippines, Pakistan, and Bangladesh to its red list over concerns of new Covid-19 variants.
