Kenya records 12 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours

Twelve people have succumbed to Covid-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours.

The Health ministry has said the figure now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 4,961.

This comes as 511 people tested positive for the disease, from a sample size of 7,955 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is now at 6.4 per cent.

From the cases 488 are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners, also representing 263 men and 248 women.

The youngest is a one-year-old infant while the oldest is 99 years. The total confirmed positive cases are now 245,337 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,478,820.

In terms of county distribution; Nairobi led with 137, followed by Baringo 5, Bomet 5, Nakuru 40, Nyandarua 36, Kiambu 35, Kisii 28, Embu 21, and Machakos 20.

Today 273 patients have recovered from the disease with 168 from various health facilities countrywide while 105 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care programme.

The total recoveries now stand at 235,469 of whom 190,670 are from the Home-Based Care and Isolation programme, while 44,799 are from various health facilities.

A total of 1,483 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,323 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some 121 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 85 of whom are on ventilatory support and 28 on supplemental oxygen. 8 patients are under observation.

Another 564 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 522 of them in general wards and 42 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

As of September 15, a total of 3,241,751 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, total first doses are 2,397,641 while second doses are 844,110.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 35 per cent with the majority being men at (55%) while women are at (45%). The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 3.1 per cent.
