Covid-19: 15 die, 186 in ICU as 467 test positive in last 24 hours

Kenya on Sunday recorded 467 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 5,217 raising the country's caseload to 203,680.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 9.0 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,137,572.

Out of the new patients, 242 are male, whereas 225 are female, with the youngest carrier being a two-month-old baby, and the oldest aged 90.

Of the new cases, 13 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution Nairobi leads with 216, Kiambu 49, Mombasa 43, Murang’a 19, Machakos 17, Kilifi 16, Nakuru 16, Kitui 16, Kirinyaga 14, Kajiado 10, Nyeri 9, Busia 5, Kericho 5, Taita Taveta 5, Kakamega 4, Uasin Gishu 4, Homa Bay 3, Makueni 3, Embu 2, Garissa 2, Meru 1, Narok 1, Siaya 1, Turkana 1, Baringo 1 and Bungoma 1.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,926 after 15 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total recoveries so far stand at 189,131 after 190 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 125 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 70 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 150,677 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 38,454 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,475 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 3,987 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and eighty-six (186) patients are in the ICU, 46 of whom are on ventilatory support and 84 on supplemental oxygen. Fifty-six (56) patients are on observation.

Another 445 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 399 of them in general wards and 46 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at August 1, 2021, administered 1,726,193 vaccines across the country.

Of these, the total first doses are 1,064,104 while the second doses are 662,089.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 204,696, others 192,921, Health Workers 115,623, Teachers 95,996 while Security Officers are at 52,853.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 62.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 2.4 per cent.
