Covid-19: Kenya records 376 new cases in last 24 hours

Kenya on Thursday, July 1 recorded 376 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,831 raising the country's caseload to 184,537.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 9.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,963,532.

Out of the new patients, 230 are male, whereas 146 are female, with the youngest carrier aged 11 months, and the oldest aged 91.

Of the new cases, 13 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi recorded 174, Uasin Gishu 37, Mombasa 27, Busia 24, Kisumu 24, Siaya 19, Kwale 7, Kakamega 7, Nyamira 7, Taita Taveta 7, Nakuru 6, Nandi 6, Kericho 6, Machakos 5, Kilifi 4, Bungoma 3, Vihiga 2, Kirinyaga 2, Murang’a 2.

Nyandarua, Trans Nzoia, Meru, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Homa Bayand Kiambu a case each.

In terms of sub-county distribution, the 174 cases in Nairobi are from Embakasi Central (17), Kibra and Makadara (15) cases each, Langata (14) Embakasi West (13), Dagoretti North and Embakasi East (12) cases each, Starehe (11), Ruaraka (10) Dagoretti South, Kamkunji and Westlands (9), Embakasi North (8), Mathare (7), Embakasi South (6), Roysambu (4) and Kasarani (3).

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,640 after six more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total recoveries so far stand at 126,594 after 910 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 516 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 394 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 91,514 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 35,080 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,227 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,722 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and thirty (130) patients are in the ICU, 39 of whom are on ventilatory support and 53 on supplemental oxygen. Thirty-eight (38) patients are on observation.

Another 168 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 153 of them in general wards and 15 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has at July 1, 2021 administered 1,417,100 vaccines across the country.

Of these, total first doses are 1,010,954 while second doses are 406,146.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 127,008, Others 109,918, Health Workers 84,432, Teachers 54,074 while Security Officers are at 30,714.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 40.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.56 per cent.
