19 succumb to Covid-19 as Kenya records 369 new cases

Kenya has recorded 369 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the country's caseload to 160,422.

The health ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the new infections were discovered in 4,469 samples.

Following the latest release, Kenya’s positivity rate now stands at 8.3 per cent.

The country has thus far tested 1.67 million Kenyans for Covid-19.

Out of the 369 new patients, 211 are male, whereas 158 are female, with the youngest carrier aged nine months and the oldest aged 90.

Of the new cases, 40 are foreigners, while the rest were Kenyans.

Kenya recorded 72 new recoveries, pushing the number of healed patients to 108,861.

Thirty-three of the recovered persons had been admitted to various hospitals, while 39 were under home-based care.

So far, recoveries recorded among patients in the home-based arrangement are 79,273 whereas those who had to undergo hospital treatment are 29,585.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 2,763 on Saturday after 19 were confirmed dead in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,298 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,652 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. 

One hundred and ninety (190) patients are in the ICU, 29 of whom are on ventilatory support and 118 on supplemental oxygen. 43 patients are on observation.

Another 130 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 122 of them in general wards and 8 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 886,288 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 516,140 are aged 58 years and above together with others, Health workers are 158,103, Teachers 137,581 while security officers 74,464.

The decrease in numbers is good news for Kenyans following the lifting of the lockdown in the zoned area and review of the curfew time by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday.
