Pep Guardiola will leave his role as Manchester City manager after a decade that transformed the club and delivered an unprecedented load of trophies, according to Sky Sports.
The Catalan, who arrived in July 2016, finishes with 20 major ‘silverwares’, making him the most successful manager in City’s history.
He will remain with the City Football Group as a Global Ambassador, offering technical advice and supporting projects across the group’s clubs.
Reflecting on his time in Manchester, Guardiola recalled his first interview at the club and the sense of fun it promised.
He said he was leaving not for any single reason but because “deep inside, I know it’s my time,” while insisting the feelings and memories would be eternal.
He celebrated the city’s work ethic and history, from the Industrial Revolution to the community spirit shown after tragedies such as the Manchester Arena attack.
He paid tribute to the club that supported him through personal loss during COVID and thanked fans, staff and his family for their unwavering support. “It has been so f**** fun,” he said, according to mancity.com
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised the honesty and trust that defined his partnership with Guardiola, saying the right decision now is for Pep to finish his managerial journey at City.
He credited Guardiola’s relentless drive to reinvent and push boundaries for an era that produced lasting evolution at the club.
Chief executive Ferran Soriano described Guardiola’s legacy as extraordinary, noting his decisive role in City’s rise to global excellence and highlighting the difficulty of sustaining success year in, year out.
Guardiola’s record at City includes six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup and three Community Shields.
His teams set multiple records, most notably being the 100-point Premier League season in 2017/18 when City scored 106 goals and registered the largest winning margin and goal difference in the competition’s history.
He led City to the domestic treble of league and cups in 2018/19 and to the historic continental treble in 2022/23, with City becoming the first English club to claim football’s five biggest prizes in a calendar year and the first to win four consecutive top-flight titles.
A five-time Premier League Manager of the Season and three-time LMA Manager of the Year, Guardiola has changed the English game with his attacking philosophy.
Having become an adopted Mancunian, awarded an honorary degree by the University of Manchester in 2025, the 55-year old will depart after a final match against Aston Villa.
