NAIROBI: Samia community has launched a dictionary in the local language to strengthen it's cultural values.

Funyula MP Paul Otuoma and his Samia Bugwe counterpart Julius Maganda presided over the inauguration of the book during the 103rd Bananda cultural festivals held at Bujwang'a Primary School on New Year.

Nambale MP John Bunyasi, who was the chief guest, said language was the custodian of culture and if not preserved can lead to loss of identity of a community.

Mr Maganda commended the elders for coming up with the idea of writing the book titled Esundulia eye Lusamia.

"The book will go a long way in helping preserve our language," Maganda said.

The book launch was the culmination of the Bananda festivals which brings together members of the Samia community from Kenya and Uganda.
