18 succumb as ministry conducts few tests in the last 24 hours

 142 more people have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus from a sample size of 2,650 tested in the last 24 hours.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases to 171,226 out of 1,818,416 cumulative tests conducted so far.

The positivity rate today is 5.4%.

Ministry of Health reports that 18 people have succumbed to the virus, bringing the cumulative fatalities to 3,206.

“All of the fatalities are late death reports from facility record audits conducted on diverse dates in the month of April and May,” the Ministry of Health statement read in part.

Sixteen (16) patients have recovered from the disease today; 9 from various health facilities while 7 are from home-based care and self-isolation.

This pushes the total recoveries to 117,039 of whom 85,047 are from home-based care and self-isolation, while 31,992 are from various health facilities.

90 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 84 of them in general wards and 6 in High Dependency Units.

“92 patients are in the ICU, 21 of whom are on ventilatory support and 54 on supplemental oxygen. 17 patients are under observation,” CS Health said.

In terms of case distribution by counties, Nairobi reported 38 new cases, Kisumu 32, Uasin Gishu 14, Kilifi 12 as the other counties recorded less than ten cases each in the last 24 hours.

Out of the active cases in the country, 1,251 patients are admitted to various health facilities, while 4,705 others are under the home-based isolation and care Program.
