Covid-19: 10 dead as 194 test positive

Kenya has recorded 194 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, shooting the national tally of positive cases to 104,500. The numbers come from a sample size of 3,935 bringing the total number of tests conducted to 1,273,281 accounting for 2.6 per cent of the population. 

Of the cases, 146 are Kenyans while 48 are foreigners.

Statistics from the Ministry of Health (MOH) also show that 39 patients have recovered from the disease, three from the Home-Based Care Program, while 36 have been discharged from various hospitals. This increases the cumulative recoveries to 74,403.

Sadly, 10 patients have succumbed to the virus bringing the total number of fatalities in the country to 1,837.

The Ministry also noted that there are 344 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide and 1,283 on Home Based Isolation and Care.

“55 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support, and 23 on supplemental oxygen. 6 are on observation.”

According to MOH, another nine patients are separately on supplementary oxygen.

Distribution in counties

Nairobi leads in the number of positive cases with 132 new infections followed by Kiambu 9, Meru 7, Kisumu 6, Kilifi 6, Laikipia 5, Mombasa 4, Kajiado 4, Nakuru 3, Turkana 3, Uasin Gishu 3, Machakos 3, Kisii 2, Lamu, Murang’a, Nandi, Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia, Busia and Embu each recording one case.
