Angelus Maina rules Ruiru Lady Captain meet

Angelus Maina is the winner of Landmark Motors (EA) Limited - Lady Captain (Mary Muthoni) 2020 prize.

Maina, playing off handicap 12, posted a sterling round total of 42 stableford points from his round of 18 to prevail over a field of 263 golfers during the tournament played at Ruiru Sports Club at the weekend.

Maina was elated with the win of the event, which was co-presented by Coca Cola Beverages Africa, Radiant Group of Hospitals, Riflotec Industries, Okolea, Stema Engineering and Friends of the Lady Captain.

Drawn up in the first flight, which teed-off at 6:30am, Maina played alongside his usual four ball comprised of Nyambura Magochi, Bernard Kungu and Mose Sammy.

With divided thoughts on whether to play following heavy rains that had pounded the area the previous night, Maina reluctantly set off to a cold morning that later saw the skies clear to a sunny and hot day.

He earned his win through three birdies sank on the fourth, 13th and 18th holes. He had seven deserved pars from the second, fifth, seventh, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes.

His bogeys were on the first, third, sixth, eighth and ninth holes. He then picked double-bogeys on the 12th, a par four with a single no-return on the par-three 11th.

While accepting his prize, Maina said:

“I’m grateful to my four –ball; Nyambura, Kungu and Mose, who were supportive and encouraged me throughout the round of 18. It’s a good feeling emerging overall winner on such a big day. Thank you all!”

The highlight of the outgoing Lady Captain Mary Muthoni's reign was having Ruiru Sports Club’s ladies section golfers join the Nairobi District Golf League where they continued to impress in their maiden season and playing the Ladies Medal throughout the year.

Meanwhile at Machakos Sports Club, Victor Mutwii clinched the overall title of Chairman (Sarwan Singh) 2020 prize played at the par 72 course at the weekend.

Mutwii, playing off handicap 10, carded an identical score of 20 stableford points from both nines for a round total of 40 stableford points to triumph.

Mutwii’s win came through birdies on the par-four fifth and par-five 10th with pars picked on the par-five first, par-two second, par-four sixth, par-three eighth and par-five ninth holes.

Others were inked on the par-three 11th, par-four 12th, par-four 14th, par-four 16th and the 17th a par-three.

He had bogeys on the par-four third, par-four fourth, par-four 13th and the homestretch 18th holes.
