MAIDEN GONG FOR SOMJI: Qambar plays mixed bogey shots before levelling nine pars to bag trophy

Qambar Somji posted an excellent 73 nett to claim the January 2017 Mug at the par 71 Mombasa Golf Course.

Despite playing mixed bogey shots on the rest of both nines, the handicap 9 home golfer levelled a total of nine pars to emerge the overall winner and claim the Division One trophy.

“It’s my first trophy of the year and hope my golf will get better as we go along,” said Somji.

Nyali’s handicap 13 Dominic Makau brought 72 nett to claim the Division Two prize. Handicap 24 Pyra Singh won Division Three prize on 75 nett.

Nyali’s Florence Karimi playing off handicap 14 posted 83 nett to win the Division One of the Ladies Medal while Division Two was won by home club’s handicap 27 Mary Mariga on 70 nett.

At the Thika Sports, Betty Mutua posted 77 points (37-39) to win the Silver category at the Medal number one tournament played on Saturday.

Petty Kigwe on 83 points (42-41) was the silver winner and Rose Kangethe, who had a score of 73 points (36-37) claimed the bronze prize.

Mumbi Njuguna on 100 gross (50-50) was the Gross winner and the men winner on 70 points (35-35) was Ayub Macharia.

The mug of Mugs event played at the Vet Lab course on Saturday was won by handicap 19 Muchemi Ndungu on 69nett.

The Subsidiary winner was handicap 23 Mukami Munge on another count back score of 71 nett, same as handicap 26 Wangari Kembi, who was the runners up.

The A division was won by handicap 12 Evans Obare on 74nett while the Division B on 73 nett and Division C on the same score was won by handicap 15 Leo Zurovac and handicap 28 Nelson Ndegwa respectively.

The event that was sponsored by Rupas Gift Centre saw handicap 8 Niral Shah Claim the runners up slot on 71 nett.

In the Christine Cup that was also hosted at the venue, handicap 23 Cleophas Bor emerged the overall winner on a count back score of 72 nett, tying on the score with handicap 23 Henry D’Souza who was the runner-up.
