Omullo Okowa Super Cup to celebrate legends ready for kick off in Muhoroni

The first edition of the Omullo Okowa Super Cup football tournament will kick off on Saturday.

Sponsored by Omullo Okowa Foundation, the football tournament is aimed at keeping youths in Muhoroni and its neighbourhoods to engage positively by spreading and promoting a peaceful co-existence in the society.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, the tournament sponsor, Omullo Okowa, their main aim is to reduce crime rate, peer pressure and substance abuse among the youth.

“The objective is to engage the youths in the area, as well as to help nurture and tap their soccer talents.”

"We want to give hope and heal lives through sports in the grassroots levels.  It's an initiative that has had already started over the years through mini-tournaments and this year we have taken a huge step to make it bigger and better for the players," Okowa said.

Okowa further revealed that the foundation on a larger extent is also trying to celebrate and acknowledge the forgotten Kenyan football legends and heroes by giving a prominent role to play in the tourney.

The super cup will officially kick off on Saturday (December 5), at Ramula and Muhoroni Stadium and will be graced by former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia legend Peter Dawo.

The finals will be played on December 12 and will be graced by the two Kenya soccer icons namely former Gor Mahia player Allan Thigo and former Gor Mahia coach Bobby Ogolla.

A total of 16 teams have confirmed participation in the seven-day tournament.

The foundation ambition is to see the establishment of a Kenyan Football Hall of Fame

Teams are pulled according to the Muhoroni wards. The four ward winners qualify to compete in the Super Cup.

The winners are rewarded with a facilitation allowance at this point to complete for Sh30000 prize money and trophy.

Meanwhile, all participating teams receive a football for future practice.

Okowa is a Kenyan based in the USA who has been doing a lot of charity works and trying highlight the plight of former Kenyan stars and trying to utilize their talent so that their heroism cannot be forgotten.
