Arsenal legend Robert Pires believes Wanyama would be a good signing for Gunners

Robert Pires urges Victor Wanyama to join Arsenal

Robert Pires has urged Arsenal to sign Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama.

The Kenyan was widely expected to leave St. Mary's last summer and submitted a transfer request amid interest from Tottenham.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been tipped to sign a midfielder in the New Year with Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla both set for lengthy spells on the sidelines.

And club legend Pires has launched a charm offensive and urged Wanyama to fill the void.

“I know Wanyama. He has the speed, skill and physique," he is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.

“He is a very good ambassador of Kenyan football and has done well in Southampton but I hope he signs for Arsenal in the future.

“However, I think he needs to score more goals because then he will be world-class material.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal target Adrien Rabiot has revealed he has asked to leave PSG on loan in January.

“I’ve asked the president for a loan move in January if my time on the field is insufficient,” Rabiot told Telefoot .

“It’s something that he can’t refuse me – I know he likes me very much.

“When you train all week, you want to be on the field. Sometimes it’s not possible and it’s frustrating."
