Did you know you can add value to seeds and get oil from them by crushing them?

Oil derived from seeds is believed to cure multiple body ailments saving on money spent on buying drugs and improves general body health which leads to a longer life.

Farmers.co.ke spoke to David Kimondo 65, from Mweiga Nyeri the founder of Kieni Canola Oil Industry who is making a fortune with his over 10 years venture of extracting oil from seeds.

He extracts oil from seeds such as canola, castor seeds, black seeds, peanut, flaxseed, chia, fenugreek, soya and pumpkin which he sells all over the country.

Kimondo adds value to the seeds by crushing them and later filtering the oil before packing it at his factory based in Mweiga.

He uses an electric machine to crush the seeds and separate openings letting out the paste and the oil.

Kimondo started off with canola over 10 years ago after thorough research on seed oils.

A litre of pumpkin oils is sold at Sh4,000 and Kimondo says he buys a kilo of the seeds at Sh270 from farmers.

He has managed to grasp any opportunity to educate farmers on the benefits of planting the crops and supply him with seeds.
