Dry, cracked heels can be very uncomfortable to deal with. Aside from making you a bit hesitant about wearing sandals and heels that can expose the situation, cracked heels can be painful too.

In some cases, it’s caused by underlying medical conditions which need to be addressed by your doctor. But most of the time, you can easily get rid of them with simple remedies.

And the good news is, there are many great and different solutions whether you prefer home remedies or are open to other options.

Check these simple and effective tips you can try if you’re dealing with this problem:

Exfoliate with a pumice stone

Regular exfoliation is a great remedy if you naturally have dry skin on your feet. And a pumice stone is something that will come in handy for these foot rejuvenating sessions.

The trick is to only go for good quality pumice stones that won’t be too rough on your skin.

As you shower, you can let your feet soften first then gently exfoliate at least once or twice a week for maintenance.

Try an apple cider vinegar soak

ACV is a holy grail in the beauty community. It’s especially popular when it comes to hair care and there are many benefits that come with using it often for different beauty needs.

Another great use to explore about ACV is as a foot soak. You can pour a small amount in a basin and mix with warm water then soak for about 10 to 20 minutes.

As the cracks heal, the vinegar will soften your skin and eliminate any foot odor or infections as well.

Use a foot file

If you’re not a fan of pumice stones, you can try a foot file. These can do wonders for your skin and ensure you never have to suffer with dry heels gain.

The main thing here, just like the pumice stone, is to only use a good quality one. A bad quality file will leave your heels with scratches and wounds that can make the problem worse.

If you have enough time, you can soak your feet in soapy water or prepare an ACV soak then exfoliate your heels with a foot file.

Buy a foot soak

You also have the option of buying pre-made foot soaks to help you get the results you want. There are many options to try, depending on what you would like.

If you’re not sure, you can buy some lanolin cream. It’s an effective moisturizer that can also work if you’re trying to eliminate dry skin on your heels.

You will just pour some warm water into a basin, dampen your feet a bit, apply some of the cream on your heels and soak for 10 minutes before exfoliating with a foot file or pumice stone.

Moisturize regularly

Keeping up with your moisturizing routine is a direct way of preventing and healing cracked heels. The best options to try are the heavy duty moisturizers like shea butter, petroleum jelly and any thick cream for dry skin.

It’s recommended that you first apply a moisturizing cream and add a layer that can seal the moisture in like petroleum jelly, at least twice a day.
