I write this editorial today after attending the celebration of the life of a young man who was a spark in the lives of the people around him. I’m not just writing this because this is what people say about people when they are gone. I’m saying this because he really was.
I had the privilege of working with him for a few years. He made us laugh, even when there was little to laugh about. His ideas and solutions to problems were offered at the last moment. Just when everyone else was about to give up, pack up and go home.
And he had a style about him, in what he wore and what he did, that seemed to bear his signature with a smiley face next to it. You could almost see him putting one magical final touch that made all the difference.
Today, I want to ask you one question. What is your signature touch in other people’s lives? Do you lift others up or bring them down? Do you give them hope or add to their misery.
Perhaps you are not the best at cracking jokes but there must be something you do very well. Why not use that today to bring a smile to someone’s face. You can be that single spark that lights up the room when everyone else has given in to gloom and doom.
