An Ethiopian student who was duped into taking a job that did not exist in Nairobi will be repatriated after police rescued him from the street where he was stranded. The investigating officer, James Wanjohi, testified before Makadara Principal Magistrate Ann Wahito. He said Danil Lucamo (pictured), a victim of human trafficking, was rescued by the OCS of Kahawa West following a tip-off from members of the public.

"It is suspected that the victim was abandoned by their facilitator within Kasarani Sub-County."Due to language barrier, the frail-looking victim was seen staggering from one shop to the next begging for water and food using sign language in Kasarani area on October 19. Lucamo was then taken into police custody for safety.

Wanjohi said Lucamo is believed to be a student who was duped into securing a job by a facilitator who abandoned him in Nairobi's Kahawa West. Reports indicate thousands of Ethiopians are persuaded to sell all of their properties in their home countries in order to facilitate their migration to South Africa for greener pastures, only to be dumped in the heart of Nairobi's slums in Eastlands after handing over their money to 'facilitators' who vanish into thin air.

After admitting that he wanted to return to his home country, the officer requested that the victim be held for 10 days while the officer in charge of deportation obtained a repatriation order from the immigration department. The court granted the orders as prayed. The matter shall be mentioned on November 4.
