Our skin is very sensitive and it is no wonder many of us are breaking out with ‘maskne’ due to constant wear of masks - that are rarely washed or properly recycled.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 global pandemic that is stealing our lives, we have been forced to wear face masks every time we step out in public, in accordance with the COVID-19 compliance guidelines.

To make the experience somewhat tolerable, face mask liners are here to help prevent any skin issue one may suffer from when wearing these face coverings.

Here is what you need to know about them.

What are face mask liners?

Not to be confused with face filters, face mask liners play the role of treating and preventing your skin from contracting certain conditions caused by sweating and irritation under the mask.

Depending on the ingredients and materials it is made of, face liners can help keep your skin fresh all day, protect it against irritation and fight acne around the area the mask covers.

How is it used?

Face mask liners are worn under the face mask – from where it can absorb moisture and keep your skin dry.

To wear it properly, place it on your face mask to fit around the nose, mouth and chin then wear your mask.

Benefits

It is important to note that face mask liners are made differently.

Some antimicrobial face liners for instance are reusable and infused with healing and soothing ingredients thus keeping the skin bacteria free.

Others are filled with tea tree and aloe vera extracts to prevent clogged pores and breakouts.

And depending on the type of cloth used, they will keep the skin dry and have very little to no irritation thus reducing skin chaffing.

If you wear makeup occasionally, you will be glad to know that there are liners specifically made for that purpose.

To add to that, coffee filter like material it (face mask liner) is made of lowers airborne diseases transmission.

Is it worth it?

Let us put it this way, by creating a barrier between your skin and the mask, the face mask liner prevents friction, bacteria buildup and moisture accumulation which are the main culprits behind maskne.

It also helps to reduce irritation especially if you suffer from eczema, rosacea and other skin problems.

If you choose to use it do so with caution and do your due diligence on the promises it claims.
