Raising good children who will become productive members of society takes some work on your part as a parent.

Parenting is one of the most rewarding jobs if done right, sadly many parents don’t put in the seriousness it takes to raise a well-behaved child like they do with their careers, hobbies and education.

If parenting is done right it can save you from a lot of pain and heart break. In the right environment where your child can thrive and grow, it will foster a desire to achieve, intellectual curiosity, cheerfulness, self-control and motivation.

Simply put, what you sow in them is what you shall reap.

Therefore, it is crucial to arm yourself with the right skills to raise great children who will make you proud.

Do not shout

Annoying as children may be, do not shout at them unless you’re trying to get their attention away from impending danger like touching a flame or running on a wet slippery floor to avoid injuries.

If you really have to get your point across for the mistakes they have done after telling them over and over not to do so, look for alternative ways to do so. The more you yell the less likely your child will listen and their behavior will worsen.

If you’re really mad, take some time to cool off and try get to the root cause of the problem. Analyze the situation and talk rationally to your child to find out exactly what went wrong and what action needs to be taken thereafter.

If they choose not to talk at the moment do not issue threats and revisit the matter a bit later after they had time to calm down and compose themselves.

Instill responsibility

Lazy adults don’t just happen, they were raised so. Many parents tend to think that the less their children have to do the better it is for them.

They have no responsibilities whatsoever only to wake up, eat, watch TV, play and do it some more. For your children to learn cooperation, hard work and essential life skills, you must give them responsibilities from an early age.

They are not as fragile as you think. Get them started with simple chores like picking their toys after play, tidying up their bedrooms, washing dishes etc. to build a routine. This will help them become well-adjusted adults who can take care of themselves.

Respect

Ephesians 4:6 in part advises fathers not to provoke their children to wrath and for good reason. How you treat your child is exactly how they will treat you and those around them because you have shown them to do so.

Be polite to your children, pay them the attention they need as they speak and treat them with kindness like you do other people.

Love each other

Studies continue to show that kids raised in a two-parent home are much happier and tend to excel in life than those who come from broken and unstable homes.

Maintaining a healthy relationship with your spouse is one of the best things you can do for your children. There is no way your child will be fine if you constantly abuse his mother. Automatically, that toxic behavior will have a negative impact in their outlook of life.

As parents, be kind and polite to each other, compliment each other in the presence of your kids, hold hands or sit side by side whenever you can and work through your issues every day so as to build a strong foundation for the little ones who are constantly watching.
