Ellie Goulding has announced she is expecting her first baby.

The 34-year-old singer found out she was pregnant on her one-year wedding anniversary to husband Caspar Jopling, saying the news came as a surprise to them both.

"That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality," Ellie shared with Vogue magazine as she showed off her 30-week baby bump.

"Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human. I want a better word than womanly, [but]—I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it," Ellie added.

The Lights songstress, who has not been pictured in public since last August, said she opted to keep her pregnancy private as she came to terms with the news.

Ellie had been working hard on a healthy eating book - Fitter. Calmer. Stronger. - when she found out and said for a long time she was 'in denial.'

"I was in such a good streak of fitness. I actually went from being smug about how healthy my salads were and my breakfasts and eating nuts and seeds, and then all I wanted was McDonalds.

"And I was kind of terrified, I suddenly wanted all of the bad things!" she explained.

Ellie said the sickness and tiredness were like 'nothing I'd ever experienced before' and she wasn't always 'serene or glowing.'

"I have a newfound respect for any woman who has children,” added the star.

Ellie also told the fashion bible that she can't wait to return to work when she's had the baby and is already looking forward to a new album and tour having spent much of lockdown in the recording studio.

The happy news comes 18 months after the singer and her art dealer beau Caspar tied the knot at a stunning ceremony at York Minister in 2019.

Guests included Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice and their mother Sarah, Duchess of York.

A number of Ellie's celebrity pals also made the list including fellow pop star Katy Perry and her partner Orlando Bloom, Sienna Miller, Tracey Emin, Joe Wicks and Jimmy Carr.

After the ceremony the wedding party made their way to the reception at Castle Howard, made famous as the filming location for Brideshead Revisited.

Ellie started dating Caspar in 2017 and moved into his New York apartment months later.

Caspar was born in Yorkshire and educated at Eton College before attending Harvard University.

In August 2018, the pair announced their engagement in The Times with a notice that read: "Mr C.W.F. Jopling and Miss E.J. Goulding. The engagement is announced between Caspar, son of The Hon Nicholas Jopling of Yorkshire and Mrs Jayne Warde-Aldam of Yorkshire, and Elena, daughter of Mr Arthur Goulding of Hertfordshire and Mrs Tracey Sumner of West Midlands."

Caspar also took to Instagram to share a photo of Ellie sporting a giant ring on her finger.

He captioned the image: "I get to spend the rest of my life with this truly extraordinary and beautiful, beautiful person. No one has ever made me feel more full of life, knowledge, happiness, or love. Hope, passion, confidence, and more love. There is no one I have ever been more complete with and there is no one I will ever feel more complete with. I look forward to a lifetime of exploring the world together, crying with laughter at stupid jokes, chatting into the early hours of the morning about art, music, the world, and the future. I love you Elena. And thank you to all of you that have sent such loving messages today."
