Meghan Markle broke royal protocol to give her own wedding speech, a new royal biography has revealed.

At the time of the couple’s wedding it was speculated that the new bride would give her own speech but now Finding Freedom has confirmed she did indeed give her own toast.

Meghan and Prince Harry tied the knot at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in May 2018.

Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand's biography Finding Freedom says the Duchess recounted various experiences of her past life in the speech.

The book is also set to “reveal unknown details” about Harry and Meghan and will also be "dispelling the many rumours and misconceptions that plague the couple" in Britain and North America.

According to US Weekly the book doesn’t go into detail about what she said but it is claimed she referenced her former marriage to film producer Trevor Engelson.

It is claimed the Duchess said finding love was “worth the wait” and she then went onto brand Harry as “the one”.

At the time it was reported Meghan also thanked the Royal Family for “welcoming her in”.

It is also reported that Prince Harry’s speech ‘had the room in tears’.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, one of the couple's friends said Harry told Meghan: "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you" and said "we make such a good team".

He also paid tribute to how Meghan has dealt with the extremely difficult week leading up to her wedding, which saw her dad drop out of the wedding to undergo heart surgery.

Prince Charles also gave a speech and spoke about raising Harry and made jokes about changing his nappy.

Typically, English royal weddings include a speech from the best man, the host and occasionally the groom, but rarely the bride.

However as it turns out Meghan is not the first Royal bride to give a speech at her wedding as the Queen also shared a few words when she wed Prince Philip on November 20, 1947.

Princess Elizabeth thanked her father and mother and her guests before saying how pleased she was to have her grandmother Queen Mary at the wedding table.

She then said: "I ask nothing more than that Philip and I should be as happy as my father and mother have been, and Queen Mary and King George before them."

Harry and Meghan are now based in Los Angeles, California, after stepping back as senior royals earlier this year.

The couple said they did not contribute to Finding Freedom and were not interviewed for it.

A statement added: "This book is based on the authors' own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting."
