How I was almost denied me the pleasure of ever being a mother

Health

I used to have irregular periods accompanied by painful cramping since the start of my menstruation back in high school.

I did not see a big deal about it as I assumed it was genetic since one of my aunts had a similar experience. I would miss my periods for duration of up to six months but this did not bother me until in 2014 when I experienced very heavy flows with clots accompanied by extremely painful cramps. As a result, I could hardly do anything including eating.

All I did was lay in bed all day in different styles to help ease the pain. Worse still,I was alone in the house and did not know what to do. I ended up soiling all the beddings as I coiled in pain. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I rang my grandmother as she is the only person who came to my mind. I explained everything to her in tears and she in turn contacted my brother who came over and rushed me to UoN Health services where I was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital It was so intense I had to be moved in an ambulance.

After several examinations from different doctors there, it was concluded that in deed I had Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and that my chances of ever getting pregnant were very minimal. This is because, according to them,(PCOS) blocks the sperms from fertilizing the ova thus infertility. This came as a rude shock to me. It was also concluded that I had to start medication immediately to balance my hormones. This was some huge news to take in but I prayed and trusted in God for healing.

After taking the medicines dutifully and going to the hospital for regular check-ups I was finally healed. This was the best news of my life. I thanked God for it. I finally conceived and gave birth last year. I am glad I noticed the problem early enough and I would urge everyone having irregular and painful menses to visit the doctor to clear any doubts.

What’s the one thing that never fails to make you feel better?
