… And they lived engaged forever after

Living

Things are returning to normalcy after last week. Relationships that were broken before Valentines are being restored and most couples are back to their usual laidback routines. Others may have moved on to other options, like staying single or a whole new relationship altogether.

However, this is not the case for the men who got down on one knee and popped the big question, together with a ring that may have cost and arm and a leg. They have acquired a new title and for the ladies, a ring that signifies they have been spoken for.

A few personal friends and family were among the people got engaged last week. I still can’t get over their romantic valentine’s proposal which they have told me over and over again. The rings are to die for. I can only imagine how the two ladies feel looking at it every morning.

Clearly they are excited and the next thing on their mind and everybody else’s is the wedding. In fact I am sure the next thing everyone asks after the big announcement is when they will be walking down the aisle. But what do you do when several years and two kids later you are still engaged and not married?

Several couples move in together after the engagement party and before they know it they are in too deep and a wedding does not cross their mind at all. They assume the fact that they are still together even without a wedding means they might not need one after all.

For other couples it is common to hear them say weddings are not cheap and so they wait for that day they will have enough to hold a grand and memorable wedding. While they continue saving they go ahead to bear children and as you know with children come more expenses. Soon they find themselves shelving their wedding plans for a later date, like when their kids are done with college and all. There are children who organize their parents wedding by the way.

Then there are the ladies who long so dearly for that wedding, but once she moves in with her fiancé, all her dreams of walking down the aisle fade. Any attempt to bring up the topic will be watered down, and it might never even be mentioned.

For her fiancé the engagement ring sealed the deal, it becomes even harder for the lady to leave once they have a child together. She will set aside her dream wedding for family. In the end she will settle for a quiet and modest wedding at the Attorney General’s office to make the union official.

On the other hand some celebrities stay officially engaged to avoid problems with their finances in future, most of the time these unions do not last. Money is a big deal if you intend to spend the rest of your life with someone.

Whether one gets married or stays engaged to their loved ones for the rest of their life, it is still important to get things documented. You may not have the glitzy and glamorous wedding but a trip to the Attorney General is just enough.

At the end of the day, marriage is not all about the wedding, marriage is a whole lot of work which needs compatibility and team work.

I wish all those who got engaged on the day of love the best and I definitely look forward to attending a wedding soon.
