Dear Coleen
My boyfriend took a job with the Navy and this obviously forces us to be apart for long spells.
It’s hard because I don’t even get the chance to talk to him much and I feel lonely.
A friend made his way into my heart and I found myself wanting him as much as he wants me.
I eventually gave in to these feelings and now this guy says he’s in love with me.
However, I’m in love with my boyfriend and it breaks my heart that after three years of being together, I’ve ended up cheating on him.
I really don’t know what to do and I’ve started to form a bond with the man I cheated with.

My advice is to make a decision because you can’t have it all ways and, sadly, this guy hasn’t been a friend, jumping in when you’re boyfriend’s away.
I do sympathize with you, though, because I do think loneliness has played a major role here.
Long-distance relationships are hard to maintain, particularly if you don’t even get the chance to talk much on the phone.
If you truly love your boyfriend, you need to tell this man you did it because you were lonely and that you regret it.
If you have plans to carry on seeing him and sleeping with him, that’s really not fair on your fella, so you need to do the decent thing and finish the relationship.
