• Highlights

Hair colouring trends are dynamic, but hair highlighting is the best way to go glam. One, however, needs to be cautious when it comes to the products they use and the side effects they have on the hair and scalp. Freshly squeezed lemon juice lightens the hair without any side effects. Wash your hair, pat it dry, section it, and then apply lemon juice on the sections you want to highlight. Use a hairbrush to apply the juice gradually from the roots to the tips. Expose your hair to sunlight until the juice dries up then wash it off with warm water.

• Shine

Lemon juice is a natural acidic rinse, which gives you that shiny and shimmery hair every woman adores. Rinse your hair with lemon juice diluted with a cup water. You could also prepare a mixture of a conditioner of your choice, and lemon juice in equal proportions then apply it on the hair, leaving it on for a minute or two. Rinse thoroughly, then pat dry to get soft and shiny hair.

• Growth

Massaging the hair with lemon juice mixed with coconut oil or olive oil stimulates hair growth. It also reduces hair loss, while the vitamin C in the lemon juice strengthens the hair.

• Dandruff

Lemon juice helps in combating dandruff. Here is the recipe; Mix 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice with 3 teaspoons water, 1 teaspoon vinegar and ¼ teaspoon salt. Apply this on the scalp and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and then wash hair with your regular shampoo. Used regularly, you will rid your hair of dandruff in three to four months.

• Oily scalp

Citric acid in lemon juice removes the excess build up of oil and rids the scalp of dead cells when used to rinse the hair. Clogged follicles that lead to an oily scalp can be removed by mixing lemon juice and vinegar in equal amounts.

• Lice

Mixing lemon juice with garlic or almond paste will help get rid of lice.

Caution: Excessive use of lemon juice could result in an extremely dry scalp and weakened hair roots. Ensure limited use to achieve maximum benefits.
