It is fair to say that well-dressed children normally make the parents look good. It is almost as if you have your house in order and it shows through your children.
Very few parents take time to coordinate outfits for their children with most just throwing on whatever comes first and up on their closet.
This should not always be the case, children like adults value how they look and will appreciate a good outfit even though they don’t show it very often.
This, nonetheless, doesn’t mean they can pull off anything that catches your eye. Here are things you should put in mind when dressing children:
- Their opinion
Not unless they are too young to decide, always consult them on what they want to put on. Children may not have much of a taste but they might not like yours either.
Don’t force trends down their throats when they obviously lean towards a certain type of style. Guide them in what you feel is right but don’t dictate them into dressing in what you want.
- Comfort is key
Yes, you want your child to be the best dressed at the party but will they be able to play, eat or even walk in that outfit?
If the outfit is ill-fitting, be rest assured your child will likely come back home with a strap missing or a torn dress. Always put their comfort first before anything else.
- The weather
Many a times parents miscalculate on the weather and children end up borrowing their scarfs or freezing all day.
Remember unlike you who can freeze and shine, children are not born with the willpower to endure suffering. Even if the sun is all out and a sweater will seem a bit much, always carry a backup for them.
- Always pick a size larger
Unlike adults who have the liberty of putting on their clothes daily, with children not so much. They have school which takes up a good part of their lives without forgetting how fast they grow.
So to be safe, always buy clothes that are one size big so they don’t outgrow them faster than they should.
- Consider the colours and fabric
Children may look amazing in bright colours but let’s be honest they can’t keep them up with all the dirt and play. Soon all their clothes will look old and discoloured from all the washing.
If you must buy them bright coloured clothes work with easy to wash fabrics and also those that don’t need ironing, wash and wear clothes work best with children.
