Quality time

By Malcolm Rex

Will there come a time when grooms will lead “normal” lives like the rest of mankind? I mean, just when it appears that I have had the mastery over my woman’s needs, the more surprises she throws at me. It has been said that women and diamonds are inseparable, but believe it or not, there are other items that rank higher than mere stones.

Fellow grooms, I know you have heard of the term quality time a million times. It has become more of a cliché now in describing the number one item that women want from us. Don’t write it off yet.

Marriage counsellors never tire reminding us (read grooms) of the need to spend the so-called quality time with the mamas. My Christian minister went ahead to hammer it in his last sermon over the weekend. To my surprise, he attributed the fall of man in the Bible to one Mr Adam for failure of spending a good chunk of his time with his sweetheart, namely Eve.

“Many people have in the past blamed Eve for being misled by a snake in the Garden of Eden,” he started.

“But where was her hubby when all this conversation was going on? Had he been there with her, the world would be a different place today. Yet, this is the same fellow who almost became a composer at the mere sight of his beauty queen.

“Have the hand holding rituals ceased? Where are the back rubs? The kisses and goodnight hugs? Where are you when she is doing the shopping? Watch more football match on TV as she talks to you are toast,” declared the minister. I could see the wide grin on Sweetheart as the point was being hammered home. Grooms, you have your job cut out.
