Governor Mike Sonko has appointed State House official Peter Kariuki as the new county secretary.
Sonko nominated Mr Kariuki on Tuesday and forwarded his name to the county assembly for vetting.
Kariuki beat five other candidates who had been shortlisted for the final interview to clinch the coveted nomination.
More than 600 individuals had applied for the job. Kariuki currently works at the Project Delivery Unit (PDU) in the Office of the President.
In a letter from Sonko to County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi, the governor asked the assembly to consider Kariuki for approval.
“I hereby nominate Mr Peter Kariuki to be considered for approval by the County Assembly for appointment to the position of County Secretary,” read the letter dated November 7 and signed by Sonko.
Once confirmed, Kariuki will take over from acting County Secretary Leboo Morintat, who had taken over from Robert Ayisi.
The position had been held by Lilian Ndegwa, who was removed from office during a purge against corruption and charged, alongside other county officials, with defrauding the county of Sh17 million.
Ms Ndegwa was replaced by Dr Ayisi whose term ended with the exit of the city's first governor, Evans Kidero.
