Teaming up with one of East Africa’s legends and a current top act in the scene is a recipe for magic. Tanzania hit makers Diamond and AY teamed up and dropped the hit track in January and the video has since become the most viewed video in the region as the song continues to rule the club. YouTube views alone stand at six million views. The behind-the-scene clips of the video that was filmed in South Africa alone have more views than some of the top videos released this year.
2. Make me sing
It was recorded in February. It has 3.4 million views so far. This video by Diamond could not go wrong with all the flavour South Africa’s AKA brought into it. The song was produced by Tudd Thomas from Tanzania and the video directed by South Africa’s Nicky. It is the unique theme the director adopted and the melodic tempo that drives this video.
3. Unconditionally bae
This is yet another smash hit by two East African music giants; Sauti Sol from Kenya and Alikiba from Tanzania. This video that was filmed at the Kenyan coast is said to have cost an arm and a leg and seems to be growing popular by the day. It was released in March and right now has more 1.8 million YouTube views.
4. My Sweet Love
Akothee has been out to prove to everyone that she means business this year and with this, she has been giving her fans hit after hit since the year begun. One of these is the feel-good My Sweet Love video in which she features Diamond. My Sweet Love has more than 1.7 million views since it was posted on YouTube in January, making it the most popular video by a Kenyan female artiste so far.
When he released the video in February, this was no doubt going to make a smash hit, and it surely has turned out just that way. Having become one of the most sought after stars in East Africa now, Alikiba has justified why he is still one of the greatest with his Lupela video hitting 1.6 million views in four months.
Many fans are convinced that these guys are Kenyans but the Navy Kenzo duo of Aika and Nahreel are from Tanzania. They are the new talk in town, and we all know why; this new Kamatia video has them joining the big shots league. The video is trendy and creative. It is a fresh sound that has 930,000 fans on YouTube. These are the new kids to watch...we can bet!
This Vanessa Mdee video is one of the most unique videos to come from East Africa so far this year, and with it the Tanzanian showbiz diva has taken the game to a whole new level. Unlike other videos ruling the region now, Vanessa stood alone, did her thing and gave us this smash that has more than 620,000 views on YouTube.
8. Live and Die in Africa
Even though the Sauti Sol new album title track hit was released in late November last year, this video became popular after the album was launched in February. The song is one of 2016 biggest hits and the YouTube views are moving towards a million. This is expected to grow as the Kenyan boys rule the region with their tour.
9. Give it to Me
This is yet another March release that has the entire region hooked. Give it to Me is an amazing video by the sassy Kenyan queen Akothee and Flavor from Nigeria. You should watch this one...twerk...twerk...twerk... In three months. The YouTube views stand at 480,000.
10. Tenda Wema
The magic and chemistry that comes with this collabo by Ringtone and Shusho is what drives this video that was released in March and now has more than 320,000 YouTube views. It is simple but captivating.
11. Going Nowhere
Jaguar and Mafikizolo came together to release this awesome video, Going Nowhere. It is only two weeks old and it has already gotten150,000 views.
