It’s that time of the year again where the top-tier get to show why they are where they are by putting out a body of work that will stand against the test of time.
Being her best narrative and visual work yet, Queen Bee didn’t disappoint with Lemonade. The album has both the surface level narrative, Jay Z cheating on Beyoncé, and the connotative message about the pain and struggles of a woman, especially the black woman. Throughout the album, details about Beyoncé’s life are revealed much to the shock and delight of her followers.
She has always been one for detail, sheen and perfection but in this piece, if we may call it that, she’s all about vulnerability. Forget the fact that many were left in utter disbelief that Jay Z would cheat on such a revered representation of beauty, many are now calling out the marriage strife as a marketing stunt to get the visual album to the top of the chats - after all, it does end with Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Blue dancing joyously together.
Additionally, according to E-reports, “Jay was involved in the creation of Lemonade and knew every song Bey was going to release. He knew the lyrics; he knew the implications. He had to approve the songs before release. Jay is a very smart businessman... bottom line is that they are both really smart and they both saw dollar signs.”
Also the fact that the work of art was released on Jay Z’s Tidal streaming service is another clue because it sky-rocketed its (Tidal’s) ratings from position five hundred to the number one music application simultaneously raising a lot of questions on whether the album was actually made to ‘haunt’ Jay Z.
Effort was clearly put into the album. On the other hand she did bring out issues that black women go through.
Views From The 6
Since Drake first announced the title to his fourth studio album Views From The 6, in August 2014, fans have been eagerly awaiting for its arrival, causing anticipation incomparable to any other album, but now the time has finally come to see if the he can deliver. The fans were, however, disappointed when it failed to get premiered on OVO Sound Radio going directly to Apple Music instead.
The album comes comes with 20 songs in total and is a follow-up to 2015’s If You Are Reading This It’s Too Late mix tape that broke the charts. Kanye West, Future, PartyNextDoor, Rihanna, the late Pimp C, Popcaan, Wiz Kid, and the newly signed OVO member Dvsn among others all make guest appearances on the album.
The plethora of producers such as Noah “40” Shebib, along with Boi-1da, Nineteen85, Murda Beatz, Majid Jordan, Metro Boomin, Vinylz and Maneesh did justice to the piece. With ladies already holding onto their tissues just five minutes into the album, you can tell it’s going to be here for a long time.
