Earlier this week, Coast-based musician Nyota Ndogo’s three-bedroom house in Voi town was among those marked for demolition to pave way for the construction of the Standard Gauge Railway.
Blogs even reported that it had been demolished.
Heads Up has however learnt that she demolished it herself so that she could recover some of the building materials to be used in her next house.
“I’m constructing a new house elsewhere with the compensation money. From the look of things, I might move into my new house in March,” the musician told Heads Up.
Nyota revealed that despite being compensated, it was not easy to let go of her house.
“I cried like a baby when I heard that I had to vacate. This was my first house that I really struggled to build. I had just settled in,” she said, adding that she was very cautious while buying her new piece of land.
The musician, who is set to get married next year to her Dutch fiancé, says that she used part of the money to buy another piece of land.
Meanwhile, the singer has defended Tanzanian superstar Diamond over allegations that he recently mistreated her at a concert.
“Diamond and I did not even meet. Kenyans should just leave the poor man alone!”
