Full list of Kenyans nominated for the 2021 MAMA awards

The 2021 MAMA awards will be held in a re-imagined virtual format in partnership with Uganda, on February 20 2021.

MTV Africa and MTV Base have announced the return their flagship award show.  According to a statement, MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), which showcases the ultimate in African culture, music, and creativity, will be held in a re-imagined virtual format in partnership with Uganda, on February 20 2021. The event will celebrate African talent across 20 award categories, including Best Male, Best Female, Best Song, and Best Collaboration. Additional new categories included are the MAMA Generation Change Award, Best Fan Base, Alone Together Best Lock-down Performance and Personality of the Year. These new categories seek to demonstrate MTV Base's commitment to supporting the youth of Africa.

Kenyans Nominated in at 2021 MAMA awards include Khaligraph Jones in the Best Hip Hop Category, Sauti Sol and Ethic Entertainment in the Best Group Category, and songstress Nadia Mukami who will take it up against; WCB’s Diamond Platnumz, Wizkid, Casper Nyovest, Naira Mailey, Shatta Wale, A Reege and Fally Ipupa for the Best Fan-Base Award. Elsa Majimbo features in the Personality of the Year category whereas Matata will battle for the Best Alternative Act gong.

Reacting to the news, an excited Nadia said that it’s an honour to be nominated in such a category.

“All glory to God. This is huge! My biggest dream is to be an African Global Star! I am working extremely hard to live my dream! By look of things, we are making steps every day! Doors are opening! The Nadia Mukami Fanbase has been recognized because it’s huge, loyal and real! NADIA FC!!!! Thank you for your support,” she wrote.

Khaligraph expressed gratitude, urging his fans to vote for him.

"MTV MAMAs, let's get it. Keep on voting. We bringing this one home," he wrote.

The biggest category, 'Artiste of the Year', is tightly contested featuring Master KG, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Diamond Platnumz, Calema and Wizkid. The organizers of the event lead by Monde Twala, Senior Vice President and General Manager at ViacomCBS Networks Africa (VCNA), admitted that content producers have embraced innovation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are excited to bring this amazing showcase to audiences across the continent and globally with an innovatively re-imagined awards show and celebration. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, content production has embraced innovation as the new gold and we are excited to take Africa to the World and showcase its immense talent and culture as we stage the biggest music awards show on the continent,” Twala said.
