Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's court proceedings to determine the custody of their six children begins today - with the actor wanting 50/50 access. The couple split back in 2016 after two years of marriage and are still finalising the details of their divorce, including the responsibility of their six children. Ahead of the hearing, a source disclosed to ET Online: "Brad is asking for 50/50 custody to be put in place and stay in place, Angelina wants to be fair when it comes to custody. She is very structured with the children. Brad has high hopes [they can] try to make it work because of the importance of co-parenting."
The insider said Brad has 'for the most part' been 'respectful' of Angelina's style of parenting but wants to see more of their children. "While he doesn't agree with everything, he knows she loves the kids and wants the best for them. He also knows his love and presence are needed," said the source.
Brad, 56, and Angelina, 45, share six children together Maddox, 19, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12 - who were the only guests at their French chateau wedding four years ago. Following their shock split, Brad is said to have done 'all he could' to avoid going to court with Angelina over their custody arrangement but believes he's been left with 'no other choice' in order to see his kids more.
Last week it was revealed that Brad's legal team were planning to call up Angelina Jolie's Girl, Interrupted co-star Jillian Armenante to testify at the former couple's upcoming custody hearing. According to US Weekly, a witness list filed from Brad for the looming hearing - said to have been presented on September 21 - includes Armenante, who starred with Jolie on the 1999 movie.
Psychological thriller Girl, Interrupted followed a young woman detained at a psychiatric hospital after a supposed suicide attempt. Angelina and Armenante also worked together eight years later in the 2007 film A Mighty Heart. Other names on Brad's witness list are said to include a therapist, security guard and numerous psychologists, reports the publication.
Back in June, Brad was spotted leaving his ex-wife's LA home on his motorbike back in June after visiting their kids. The Troy actor is now said to be 'at odds' with Angelina over how much time he can spend with kids Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and 12-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Last December, Angelina gave an interview with Harper's Bazaar where she claimed how she wanted to live anywhere in the United States but she can't because of Brad.
Sharing her plans with the magazine, the actress said she “would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18.” Angelina said that her travel ideas were currently on hold because of her ex-husband. “Right now I’m having to base where their father chooses to live,” she explained.
