Valentine's Day couldn't come at a worse time if you've recently split up with your significant other.

Although you may be planning on serving up a cold dish of revenge rather than a romantic meal, Hemsley Conservation Centre is providing an output for your anger by giving you the chance to forever link one creature that makes your skin crawl to another.

For just £1.50, you can name one of the centre's resident cockroaches after your ex - or a friend's to cheer them up - to mark Valentine's Day in the most appropriate way possible.

Deciding against the option of adopting a cockroach (because no one wants to replace one insect with another), the centre will allow broken-hearted singletons to put it all behind them using its 'name a cockroach programme'.

Not only will you receive a certificate immortalising them in their true form and a quiz to compare your former flame to a cockroach, but all the money raised will also go towards funding projects at the zoo.

And if you include their name in the 'add note' section at the checkout, they will also be added to the roach board at the centre for all to see.

After seeing that the idea proved to be a hit last year, a statement on the website reads: "For those that don’t quite require revenge, there’s another way to make you feel better about getting back at your ex on Valentine’s Day.

"The HCC is offering the chance to name a cockroach in honour of your friend's worthless ex on this special holiday of love for just £1.50."

It doesn't look like they'll be short of customers, as many took to social media to voice their support for the idea.

One wrote: "So I just named a cockroach after my ex, to be fed to the meerkats on Valentine's. And honestly, it’s the best £1.50 I’ve ever spent."

A second said: "I never thought I'd say this, but I am going to purchase a cockroach."
