Oscar Brighton, a third-year economics student at Zetech University, was arrested on Thursday for selling fake KCPE and KCSE exam papers.

According to the DCI, the suspect was arrested by undercover agents attached to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) and was in possession of fake exam papers.

He was also accused of creating several Whatsapp groups where candidates were asked to deposit money to access the papers.

“He had created several WhatsApp groups where candidates were asked to deposit between Sh1,600 for Humanities to Sh2,600 for Sciences.

“The suspect, who is a serial offender is currently in custody, to be charged with contravening section 28 of National Examination malpractices Act 29, 2012,” tweeted the DCI.

Speaking during the conclusion of KCPE exams on Wednesday, Education CS Prof George Magoha described the exercise as smooth bar a few cases of cheating.

He went on to state that all those who were involved in malpractices will face the full force of the law, highlighting an instance where a centre manager in Marsabit took a photo of an exam paper and shared it with colleagues.

“We will not have mercy on him [sic]…in Turkana, we also found someone with a cellphone that had ready answer sheets and he is also in custody as we speak,” he said in part.

Earlier, the CS revealed that marking of the scripts for the 1.2 million candidates started on the first day and results should be out in two weeks.

If so, this will be the second year KCPE results are released within two weeks of completion of the tests.

“If we delay we shall get to that time but do not be surprised if we complete a little bit earlier,” said Magoha.
