Kim Kardashian has been accused of cultural appropriation after she sported Hindu-inspired earrings in a recent photoshoot.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, 40, has caused a storm on social media following the release of the striking snaps which don hoop earrings featuring Om, the central sacred symbol of Hinduism.

Om symbols have been popular in America for decades as Eastern philosophy and Hindu cultural traditions like yoga have grown in popularity.

The reality TV sensation looked stunning in the snaps which saw her lay sprawled across a bed in a daring colourful outfit as she showcased her famous curves.

Kim’s photoshoot has since sparked immense debate online, with some fans claiming she has ‘stolen’ elements of their heritage.

Elsewhere, however, others have insisted that Kim has shed light on their culture by wearing the religious Hindu symbol.

Despite some supportive fans coming out to defend the SKIMs mogul, Kim's jewelry choices have certainly caused commotion online.

“Is now a good time to mention that the Om is a sacred symbol to Hindus and not just an accessory,” complained one Twitter user.

“Kim just out here wearing my religious symbol with no idea what it means. Classic Kardashian behaviour. Tone deaf as usual,” another fume.

“Will this woman ever learn? Why is she trying her best to look Indian by wearing Om? Cultural appropriation much?” a third raged.

Meanwhile, others defended Kim’s fashion accessory.

“Kim is promoting Hinduism here. Why is everyone so pressed? I’m Hindu and I’m happy about it,” another user pointed out.

Another fan added: “I don't see this as disrespect at all. How can you assume beyond reasonable doubt that she's ignorant about its origins? Because she's a Kardashian? Prejudice. And lowering Hinduism to a "religion" is short-sighted in the first place. Om is so much more than a "sacred" symbol.”

Kim’s latest scandal joins a long list of allegations of 'cultural appropriation' in the past.
