Kim Kardashian has been offered advice on divorce by her mother Kris Jenner, who had a strong message to share. The 40-year-old Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is in the middle of divorcing her rapper husband, Kanye West, after seven years of marriage.
Now the KUWTK momager is imparting some of her knowledge from when her marriages broke down, most notably to Kim's late father Robert Kardashian in 1991. The most important aspect of marriage or relationship breakdown, according to Kris, 65, is that the children are put first.
Speaking on WSJ Magazine's The One (presented with Mytheresa), Kris spoke out about Kim's split from Kanye. She said: "I think the most important thing I learned through my experience, both of my experiences, is that the kids come first."
Kris shared four children with Robert - daughters Kourtney, Kim, Khloé and son Rob as well as two children with ex Caitlyn Jenner - daughters Kendall and Kylie. Kris continued: "If you keep that in the front of your mind and know that they are going to get you through, the love is going to get you through, you know, no matter how much you're hurting.
"I used to put everybody to bed, and then I would be upset or go to my room and cry myself to sleep.
"But I didn't want to have a pity party in front of the kids."
Kris added that by prioritising the children can mean that those divorcing stop focusing on "unnecessary" arguments, especially when splits of this nature can "get really silly". Kim shares four children with Kanye, 43: daughters North, seven, and Chicago, three, and sons Saint, five, and Psalm, who is two in May.
Kanye took a while to respond to the divorce papers as he believed that Kim might change her mind but he has now realised that the divorce is happening and has now requested joint legal and physical custody of their children. People has reported that Kanye has also asked for all spousal support for either person to be stopped.
The rapper's counsel reportedly lists irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce, though he did not give a date of their separation. Kris added in her chat that the advice is two ways and when she is in crisis, it is often Kim that she reaches out to.
She said: "Kim would be my girl. She's always all of our go-to whenever anything happens because she's so calm and she's the one who really thinks things through. Kim is your girl."
