A man was on Saturday killed in an accident involving a government official headed to Sagana State Lodge. Christopher Nderitu, 44, was hit some 200m from Karundas Primary School. Witnesses said a vehicle in the convoy that was headed for a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta was overtaking when it hit Nderitu, who was on an electric wheelchair. Raha Wambui, Nderitu's mother, said the accident happened five minutes after he left his electronics shop at Karundas.
"He was immediately removed from the scene and rushed to Nyeri Referral Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival," said Ms Wambui.
Help from CS
She said Health CS Mutahi Kagwe "sent someone from his office and area sub-chief to our home. We gave them information he had requested for".
Bernard Mahinda, a neighbour who was among those who took Nderitu to hospital, said he had a big injury at the back of his head. "His clothes were soaked in blood. His limbs were crushed. He was in bad shape".
Fortunate Muthoni, Nderitu's widow, said he was on his way to buy building material when the accident occurred. "We have an ongoing family house construction project and he was going to get materials from Chaka," said Muthoni.
She expressed dissatisfaction in the manner the incident was handled, adding that Nderitu was dumped in the hospital and left on his own.
"He was treated like a lowly person. It is sad that I lost a husband and breadwinner. Our son is still in school," she said.
