Award-winning rapper Khaligraph Jones has been feted for hitting half a million streams on Boomplay for his 2018 album, Testimony 1990. A beaming Khaligraph was handed the plaque on August 12 by Boomplay’s management and ‘The OG’ promised to drop another album soon.
Days earlier, gospel singer Evelyn Wanjiru was also feted for reaching 500,000 streams for her 2017 album Mungu Mkuu. An elated Evelyn thanked her fans for the streams while urging them to help her reach the one million mark by the end of 2020.
“I want to thank God for enabling me to become a blessing to many people out there. I am grateful; we’re looking at one million-plus streams,” the elated singer said.
Boomplay, touted as Africa's largest streaming site recently released a list of the most streamed songs from July 29 to August 4. Otile Brown took the crown with Dusuma; he also clinched the third and fifth positions with Regina and Watoto Wa Pombe respectively. Tanzania's Simi came in second, followed by Bahati then Rayvanny, who has two entries. Khaligraph and Nadia Mukami wrapped up the list.
In Tanzanian, Alsy's album Kipenda Roho which was released in 2020 recently hit the 1 million streams milestone. Juma Jux also received a plaque after The Love album hit the million mark following its release in November 2019.
