Former world boxing super middleweight champion Conjestina Achieng was at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Saturday night as Fatuma Zarika retained her WBC Super Bantamweight title.
Polished in a black suit, Achieng wore the warmest smile ever as she watched Zarika upstage Zambia's Catherine Phiri.
When Zarika was declared the winner via a unanimous decision by the three judges; 98-92, 99-91 and 97-93, the boxing legend was at hand to congratulate the ‘Iron Fist’.
In a post made by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko four months ago, Achieng has made significant progress.
Sonko revealed that the boxing legend was transferred from Nairobi Hospital where she was initially admitted to Eden House Rehabilitation Center in Kabete.
“I’m happy to note that veteran female boxer Conjestina Achieng is making positive steps towards recovery at the Eden House Rehabilitation Center in Kabete where she was admitted last night,” he posted on his social media page.
“Conjestina has spent close to a week at the Nairobi West Hospital where she has been undergoing treatment since her arrival from her rural home in Yala, Siaya County,” he added.
Governor Sonko airlifted Achieng from Siaya to Nairobi for treatment last year after a video of her languishing in the village emerged online.
