Unless someone wants to poison me, Prof Anyang' Nyong'o dispels online rumours about his health

News
 Kisumu senator Prof Anyang' Nyong'o

Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o has described as "malicious and reckless" reports about his health doing the rounds on social media.

Prof Nyong'o (pictured) said he had received phone calls from friends and supporters seeking information about his health following wild online talk that he was ill.

The Standard also received several calls from members of the public asking about the senator. One caller to the The Standard Newsroom in Kisumu County sought to know if Nyong'o was alive.

But speaking on phone from Nairobi, Nyong'o, who is also gunning for the Kisumu governor's seat in the August 8 elections, dispelled rumours that he had been taken ill.

"People should stop these malicious and yellow propaganda, I have been ignoring them since 2013," said Nyong'o.

He described the rumours about his health as reckless and dangerous.

"I do not understand the cause of these rumours. They are very reckless and unless someone wants to poison me, they should stop."

He appealed to Kenyans to stop spreading false and alarming information, especially in the run-up to the General Election.

The senator is seeking to dethrone Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma.

This comes in the wake of another case where an impostor set up a Facebook page under the name of Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali and used to it to con job seekers out of money.

Mr Washiali has since disowned the Facebook account and reported the matter to the police.
