The family of Felix Orinda alias Dj Evolve is struggling to clear his hospital bill after it ballooned to over Sh7 million.

Currently admitted at the Nairobi Hospital in the ICU, DJ Evolve sustained a gunshot wound in the neck after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino shot him on January 17 at B Club, Nairobi.

Speaking to the press, DJ Evolve’s family expressed concerns that they will not be able to find the best medical attention for him as they struggle to find ways of clearing the bill.

Sources close to the family also disclosed that the DJ is still fighting for his life and is unable to speak. Doctors are using pipes to feed him.

In a bill seen by SDE dated February 20, Dj Evolve’s invoice at the hospital includes physiotherapy at Sh494,100, Sh900,000 for the nursing department, about Sh990,000 room rent and Sh1.6 million doctors’ fee.

According to the family, Nairobi Hospital management has been calling Dj Evolve’s mother to start clearing the bill.

Bail to offset bill?

In his bail ruling, Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi released Babu on a cash bail of Sh10 million, to be used to settle the DJ’s hospital bill.

The MP was to pay the bail in instalments of 2.5 million and the medical facilities were to make payment claims through the court.

However, according to the family, the legislator only gave arond Sh800,000 towards the bill.

Babu is yet to submit the second instalment of his bail money as his petition seeking to lower the Sh10 million bail has not been heard and determined.

On February 18, Andayi recused himself from handling the case, citing objections raised by the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji over his ruling on Babu’s bail terms.

“The DPP has written a complaint to the Judicial Service Commission over the cash bail granted to the accused person in this case. I, therefore, cannot proceed with the trial,” he said.
