Kenya’s ever-fresh stand-up comedian Eric Omondi is in the lakeside city of Kisumu.
The comedian early today took his over 2 million followers on Instagram by surprise after he shared a video claiming he had been honored by Governor Anyang Nyong’o’s government.
In the video that has been viewed over 108,000 times and has since attracted a bevy of celebrities, Omondi claimed that the county had named a street after him.
“Thank you so much Kisumu County Government for this great honor. I will forever cherish this. I promise to make you even prouder!
“I will endeavor to lift the name of my county Kisumu and country Kenya higher and higher. This is my home, my town, my city, my country. May this be an encouragement to every young person in this country.
“That it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, with belief and hard work, you can achieve anything,” declared Omondi.
Whilst many applauded the move, some, however, pointed out that it was a fake reveal and part of an act by the comedian who is in his 20th edition of ‘Eric Omondi Stadium Tour’ in Kisumu.
Of note, according to Vin Soul World, was that Omondi’s name was in a white sheet of paper laid over an existing street name.
Unfazed though, many congratulated the former Churchill Show bigwig on the ‘milestone’.
Media personality Julie Gichuru was first in line to congratulate Omondi.
“Wonderful! Hongera my son! Keep soaring,” she wrote.
“This is great,” added Citizen TV’s Willis Raburu.
Event guru Chris Kirwa had a suggestion to the comic: “Congratulations. Proud Moments. Ask them to make a Selfie zone with free WiFi around it.”
Wesley the DJ, Pinky Ghelani, Nikita Kering and Nick Mutuma among others were not left behind either as they expressed their unreserved admiration for the fast rising star who has been roped in by Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz for an event in Umma Lugogo.
The Lugogo event is scheduled for July 25.
